My favorite shop here in Milan is called
L'Erbavoglio. In this little boutique/workshop in the old area of Brera in Milan ,owners make wonderful creations with TÔLE PEINTE technique which means painted sheet iron.It was used for making botanical models like
these in the 1800's - early 1900's for teaching purpose.
It 's not so hard to make as it seems. You need tin iron or cooper sheet, which is easy to cut with the scissors (use gloves!),any kind of primer (that grip the surface and makes the paint grip to the primer),Cut your forms, paint with primer, let it dry and paint again with tempera trying to reproduce natural colors of foliage or flowers. As this lovely objects costs far far beyond my possibilities ,I'll try to make some by myself and let you know!
chard is my favorite!
